Children's Art

Children love to make art at the Respite Center.

We use art, as we use all activities, to help children recover from stress, express their feelings, develop social skills, and have fun. Art can help children relax, calm down, and find that secure place within themselves that says, “I am all right.”
Children's Art

Children use art to make sense of their world.

Art can brighten a child’s day, spark his or her imagination, and find that exciting, yet secure place that says, “The world is OK.” Art helps children weather the difficulties in their lives. The process of artistic expression gives children the choice of escaping from anxiety or facing it. Most of the time it does both.
Children's Art

Children love the attention they get while making art.

There is no “right or wrong” when children make art with Child Care Specialists. At the Respite Center, Child Care Specialists provide a nurturing, non-judgmental presence that allows children to build upon their own strengths.
Children's Art

Making art helps children build resiliency.

When the artistic process is guided by competent caring adults who help children internalize their own special gifts, art becomes a powerful protective talisman. We believe this is evident in children’s artwork produced at the Respite Center.
